MLB's Best Young Talents 23 and Under

The future of the MLB is now, and these are some names to look out for.

Who are the rising stars in the MLB, and how soon until they are going to be household names?

In today's MLB, there are plenty of players who we have established as superstars and been on the scene for years. However, there is an up and coming era of players who have recently started to make names for themselves, and will soon take the league by storm. Here are the top young MLB talents 23 years old and under.

A name that is hard to ignore when thinking about young stars in the MLB is Roman Anthony. Last year's number one prospect was called up by the Boston Red Sox in early June and made an immediate impact. From June to early September before Anthony experienced an injury right before playoffs, the twenty one year old boasted a .292 batting average, .859 ops, as well as hitting 8 home runs and driving in 32 runs. Along with this, Anthony had a 60.3% hard hit percentage and showed above average fielding metrics in his first few months with the team. Beyond the stats, the intangibles are what make Anthony such an exciting player and give evidence as to why he could be one of the faces of the MLB in a few years. Anthony’s bat is his main tool. With great power potential and high exit velocities he will consistently be a threat at the plate for years to come. But that is not even the best of his toolkit. What makes Anthony such an interesting prospect is his plate discipline. If you watched Anthony take at bats in his first few months with the Red Sox, you would have no idea that he just got called up. Anthony's plate discipline is elite and there are metrics that back it up. Anthony had a 13.2% walk percentage, among the best in the MLB, and had a K percentage of just 27.7%. Among all of these statistics and abilities that make him such a great player, he has also shown signs that he is ready for the big moment. In his first game in Yankee stadium against the Red Sox long time rival, one of the biggest rivalries in all of sports, Anthony hit a 2 run home run in the top of the ninth inning to propel the Red Sox to a 6-3 victory. It's hard to pinpoint a specific area Anthony needs to vastly improve, but his launch angle is something to look out for as he had a ground ball rate slightly over 50% last summer. Aside from his bat, Anthony has shown flashes of elite defense in left field. When starting in left field for the Sox, Anthony posted 6 outs above average which indicated how many plays he made that the average left fielder would not make. The combination of elite defense and potentially historically strong hitting is what makes Anthony arguably the top young talent in the MLB.

The next player on this list is Junior Caminero. The 22 year old slugger from Tampa Bay made his debut in late 2023 and has established himself as a key piece for the Rays. In 2025, Caminero had an average of .264, an ops of .846, and drove in 110 runs which was good enough for 10th in the MLB. However, these aren't even the most eye popping stats of his. Caminero hit 45 home runs last season, the sixth most in all the MLB. At such a young age, it is hard to ignore what Junior Caminero is doing at the plate and the raw power that he possesses. On top of these above-surface metrics, Caminero also has arguably the best bat speed in all the MLB, with an average speed of 78.5 mph while the league average is 72 mph. In order for Caminero to take the next leap into superstardom, he needs to improve his discipline at the plate. Last season, Caminero posted an on base percentage of just .311 which is below the MLB average of around .320. Apart from his hitting, he has shown the skill set as an above average fielder at 3rd base. While his infield play looked shaky in his first two seasons with the Rays, Caminero vastly improved in his third season and from June to August of last season he was ranked 4 out of 64 qualified third basemen in terms of defensive metrics. If Caminero continues to have consistent defensive play as well as adjust his plate approach in order to draw more walks, it won't be long until he solidifies himself as a superstar and one of the best talents in all of the MLB.

To round out this list of top talents, it's important to take a close look at Jackson Chourio. The 21 year old center fielder for the Milwaukee Brewers made his MLB debut in March 2024, just 18 days after he turned 20. In his debut season, Chourio immediately started to turn heads after he became the youngest player in MLB history to hit 20 home runs and steal 20 bases in one season. After his flaming hot rookie season, Chourio struggled early in 2025, however, he improved as the season progressed and finished with an ops of .771 and had another 20 home run and 20 stolen base season. At the plate, Chourio boasts excellent bat speed with an average of 73.9 mph and has shown potential for powerful exit velocity numbers including a home run that left the park coming in hot at 109.1mph off the bat. While there is clearly lots of plate potential for Chourio, he needs to significantly improve his chase rate if he wants to truly be an elite threat at the plate. He posts a chase percentage of 36.9% which is way above the MLB average of 27-30%. As intriguing as he is as a hitter, Chourio also shows incredible potential in the outfield. This past season, Chourio played a lot of center field which wasn't the case in his rookie season. His tenure in center field has been described as slightly below average to average. Chourio posted an outs above average of 3 last season, and showed potential at the position with his glove, however, his speed is what makes him such an intriguing fielding prospect. With a sprint speed of 29.2 feet per second, Chourio ranks in the 93rd percentile of MLB players in terms of speed. His speed has been evaluated as “70 grade” meaning he has well above average speed tools that are a huge plus to any team. If Chourio continues on an upward trajectory and can improve his plate discipline as well as consistency in the outfield, he will certainly make lots of noise in the upcoming season as well as for years to come.
