Mid-Season NFL MVP Award Predictions

By Ruhan Karthik

Patrick Mahomes, the superstar quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs, has consistently demonstrated an unmatched level of excellence on the field. His arm talent, precision, and ability to improvise in high-pressure situations have made him the league’s most dominant passer. In the 2023-2024 NFL season’s conclusion, Patrick Mahomes will be named the NFL’s Most Valuable Player for the third time in his illustrious 8-year career.

The Kansas City Chiefs are off to a solid start with a record of 7-2 through the midway point of the season. Other MVP candidate quarterbacks like Lamar Jackson, Jalen Hurts, and Tua Tagovailoa have also led their teams to contend level records. However, these quarterbacks have better offensive weapons around them to throw to compared to Mahomes. For example, the Baltimore Ravens have rookie stud Zay Flowers(45 receptions, 472 receiving yards, 1 TD) and reliable veteran Mark Andrews(41 receptions, 477 receiving yards, 6 TDs). The Philadelphia Eagles have the dynamic duo of A.J. Brown(67 receptions, 1005 receiving yards, 6 TDs) and Devonta Smith(42 receptions, 533 receiving yards, 4 TDs), and the Miami Dolphins have the lighting-quick duo of Tyreek Hill(69 receptions, 1076 yards, 8 TDs) and Jaylen Waddle(40 receptions 522 receiving yards, 3 TDs). Aside from All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce, who is off to an inconsistent start, Mahomes’ next-best passing weapons in the offense are the rookie wide receiver Rashee Rice(34 receptions, 378 receiving yards, 4 TDs) and Justin Watson(14 receptions, 276 receiving yards, 0 TDs).

Although Mahomes, aside from one player, is surrounded by a bunch of sub-par NFL starters, he can manage the game at such a high level that the Chiefs are still the Super Bowl favorites. The Chiefs have a knack for beginning to click as the playoffs roll around, which could induce a late-season surge from Mahomes and the Chiefs in a tough late-season schedule. Despite the many holes in the roster, it would not be much of a surprise if the Chiefs finish atop the NFL standings, as in three of Mahomes’ six complete seasons as a starter, the Chiefs have finished with the best record in the NFL. Besides, facing and beating tough teams such as the Eagles, Bills, and Bengals, while already defeating the Jaguars and Dolphins, will further bolster the case for yet another Mahomes MVP season. The NFL MVP award deserves to go to the most valuable player on the best team in the NFL, and that man is none other than Patrick Mahomes.
