Victor Wembanyama entered the NBA with sky-high expectations. The French phenom was drafted first overall by the San Antonio spurs in 2023. He was seen as a generational talent, getting comparisons to Lebron James. Before joining the league, he played for Metropolitans 92 in France. Today we will be grading Victor Wembanaya's rookie year.
Expectations vs realities
Coming into the league, Wembanyama's talent was highly anticipated. His unique physique and play style made him a one-of-a-kind prospect. Especially since he was standing 7’3 at 235 pounds. Though the Spurs finished with a 22-60 record, Wembanyama surpassed expectations. He was named Rookie of the Year, was a finalist for Defensive Player of the Year, and earned a spot on the NBA All-First Team Defense—all as a rookie. In addition to this he had the fastest 5x5 game.(27 points, 10 rebounds, 8 assists, 5 steals, and 5 blocks)

Offensive (B+):
Wembanyama averaged 21.4 points per game with solid shooting splits—46.5% from the field and 32.5% from three. While not outstanding from beyond the arc, his offensive game was still impressive for a rookie.
Defense(A+):
His defensive presence was dominant. With 3.9 blocks and 1.2 steals per game, he immediately established himself as a top-tier defender.
Durability (B):
Wembanyama missed 11 games out of 82 due to injuries, including hip issues and sinus infections, which slightly affected his availability.
Character/Mentality (A):
Wembanyama’s leadership, poise, and potential were evident, making him an exciting player for the future.
Struggles throughout the year:
